1) If the God of Death decides to use the Death Note to kill the assassin of an individual he favors, the individual's life will be extended, but the God of Death will die.

2) The dead God of Death will disappear, but the Death Note will remain. The ownership of this Death Note is usually carried over to the next god of death that touches it, or is kept in posession of the human owner of the Death Note.

所以﹐給Misa第一本死亡日記的死神Gelus﹐是因為喜歡上Misa﹐為了保護她﹐在死亡日記里寫了想傷害Misa的痴情粉絲的名字﹐而在死神界粉滅的。REM目睹了這一切便決定把Gelus留下的死亡日記交給Misa。

REM的粉滅﹐也是因為它被Light的詭計逼得進退兩難。

為了保護Misa (那時的Kira是Misa)
1) 如果L還是搜查組總領﹐搜查組終究會把矛頭指向她。
2) Misa對Light痴心一片﹐一定會想辦法與L接觸﹐幫Light把L殺死。倘若L在與Misa接觸後便死亡﹐搜查組便更加確定Misa是Kira。
3) Misa由於已換了兩次死亡眼睛﹐所剩餘的壽命也不長了﹐如果REM犧牲自己﹐寫下L的真名﹐殺了他﹐Misa不但能獲得更長的壽命﹐Light也會順其自然得成為搜查組總領﹐誤導搜查組不讓Misa被懷疑。

REM想給她幸福﹐而最終順著Light的計劃在死亡日記上寫上Watari和L的真名後﹐在走廊上化成沙。

其實L在漫畫的第7集就死去了﹐調查Kira的組織派了兩位天才兒童繼續L的遺志。所以 [死亡日記II] 最精彩的部份是L如何反敗為勝 (跟動漫不同嘛)。
